Attention All Barkers Ridge Residents
Public Hearing on Groeschke Apartments - January 28, 2003 at Mayde Creek
HS, 6pm.
Come to the Public Hearing Jan 28
.As most of you are aware by now, the Greenland apartments that were scheduled to be put in front of the elementary school were defeated. A lot of wonderful people put in countless hours to beat back the the corporate Goliath. Three people in particular I would like to thank, although there were many others who helped. In our subdivision, board member John Osborn put in countless hours making phone calls to officials and coordinating our legal efforts. Another person in our subdivition who did yoeman work was Judith McGlaughlin who simply wowwed them at the various board meetings with her market study and Power Point presentation. Additionally, from the Mayde Creek subdivision, Tess Zimmerman, spearheaded the petition drive and just about everything else. If you see these three people, thank them.
As I have prodded here in the past, get involved in the community activities. The turnout at the Halloween party was great. More on that later. Upcoming events include the Groeshke Apartments public hearing, the HOA annual board meeting (maybe more than 40 people will show up this time), and the Easter Egg Hunt. I look forward to seeing you there.
Make sure to sign the Petition
.Groeshke Apartments
As many of you are already aware, WE defeated the Greenland Apartments proposal (by the elementary school) that Trammell Crowe Residential put forth last Fall. Unfortunately, the way the system works, their lottery number came up again and now we will battle the Groeshke Apartments (across from the Estates at Cullen Park entrance on Barker Cypress).
The Barkers Ridge Homeowners Association has yet again taken a stance against the development of these apartments. We welcome any and all opinions. We again have retained council to help us in this fight and have joined forces with the other subdivisions in the outlying area. All are committed in some way to fighting this. Your HOA has taken the lead and is coordinating the effort with the legal representatives. This is a grass roots, team effort and everyone needs to help in whatever way you feel comfortable.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
We really need your signature on the petition. Volunteers are fanning out in the neighborhoods to get these. All members of your family/household who are of voting age should sign. If you have a high school senior that is 18 – have them sign. If at all possible, try to attend the public hearing – as many people from your household as possible. Even if you don’t want to speak or stay very long, it is very important that you sign the sign-in sheets at the public hearing. You do not need to stay.
Over 800 people by one estimate came to voice their opinion or lend support in the battle last time. It was an amazing display of democracy in action. We need even more this time. Please note that we are at a different location:

After the public hearing we will pass out information about people to contact. For now, contact the following elected officials and let them know how you feel. The response we got last time was great and may have made the difference
Below are the names, addresses, faxes, phones and emails of the people we need to contact (barrage would be a better word) with your opposition. Sending multiple forms of communication is great. The strongest argument we have is all of the affordable housing nearby that already exists and sits vacant. You can also mention the lack of transpiration, medical facilities, business for jobs, businesses for retail, and the over crowded school.

To help strengthen communications, we have created a YahooGroup "Mayde Creek CAT" ( www.yahoogroups.com ) "yahoogroup" is basically an e-mail group that distributes the e-mail messages of group members so that all persons can stay informed. To become a member, send an e-mail to Tess Zimmerman (tessyz@earthlink.net) with your e-mail address in the body of the message.
We have set up a network of people willing to act as contacts in each neighborhood (or section) to distribute flyers and collect signatures. This person will also be a contact if neighbors have questions. If you would like to be this person in your area please contact our resident saint, Judith McGlaughlin at her email (jmcglaughlin@directvinternet.com)
There are a lot of your neighbors who have been working very hard to defeat this complex. Help if you can.
TOGETHER WE CAN WIN
